1. Open a new First Citizens checking account.

Find which checking account is right for you, then call us or talk to your local banker to open your new account.

2. Switch your direct deposits.

Contact your employer for information on how to update your direct deposit information. They will need your routing and account numbers, which you can find on our Personal Checking FAQs page.

3. Switch your automated payments.

Contact each company that drafts automated payments from your old account to update your checking account and routing numbers. Or setup automated payments with First Ciizens Bill Pay.

4. Close your old account.

Obtain your available balance from your former account so that you know exactly what's available for deposit into your new First Citizens checking account.You can find your balance at your previous bank by calling, going to a branch, or checking your online banking account. Then fill out the Account Closing Authorization, P D F opens in a new tab form and mail it to your old bank to notify them that you're closing your account and to direct the funds to your new account.
