International Wire Transfer Services

Summary of service

International wire transfers can be sent in US dollars, or in the local currency of the beneficiary—known as a Foreign Exchange Wire. All international wires are sent via the SWIFT network, which is a fast, secure way to send a specific amount of foreign currency or US dollars internationally.

Essentials to know

  • At First Citizens, an international wire is defined as any wire with a beneficiary bank outside the US as well as these US territories and associated states:

    • American Samoa
    • Federated States of Micronesia
    • Guam
    • Midway Islands
    • Northern Mariana Islands
    • Puerto Rico
    • Republic of Palau
    • Republic of the Marshall Islands
    US Virgin Islands

  • All international wires will be processed through our Commercial Advantage digital platform, or by visiting a branch, with a cutoff time of 4 pm ET.

  • Initiating Wires:

    • Your international wire templates were transferred to Commercial Advantage in Needs Repair status and will require one or more fields be updated prior to use. For instructions, refer to our Fix a Template in Needs Repair Status Quick Reference Guide (PDF).

  • Receiving Wires:

    • Be sure to provide senders with your new routing number—in effect on July 18.

    • To see if your account number is also changing, refer to your First Citizens Welcome package mailed on June 10. If necessary, provide the new number to your senders.

  • Alerts:

    • Alerts can't be transferred to First Citizens. Make sure to reestablish them in Commercial Advantage.
